Cops - NCAA Edition

How badly will Oklahoma QB Rhett Bomar's dismissal from the team impact the Sooners' quest for a national championship.

And you thought the NBA was full of bad apples.

Oklahoma QB Rhett Bomar was kicked off the team Wednesday after it was revealed that he was getting paid for hours he didn't work at Big Red Sports and Imports, a Norman auto dealer. And that's just the beginning. At Miami, four players -- RB Tyrone Moss, WR Ryan Moore, WR Rashaun Jones and LB James Bryant -- won't play in the team's season opener against Florida State. Coach Larry Coker refused to comment on the specifics of their suspensions, but we doubt it was for volunteering at a nursing home. And those four aren't the only Hurricanes in trouble: Reserve safety Willie Cooper was shot in the buttocks in his own yard, and escaped more serious injury when teammate Brandon Meriweather pulled a pistol from his pants and shot three times at the assailant.

But we don't want to pick on just Miami. Tennessee freshman tight end Lee Smith was charged with drunken driving on campus and has been dismissed from the team, while another freshman, Marsalous Johnson, was suspended this week for an incident unrelated to his arrest for aggravated assault. And at USC, defensive back Brandon Ting tested positive for steroids and left the team.

The biggest blow will be to Oklahoma, which was looking like a BCS championship contender but now will struggle with an inexperienced quarterback. How else do you think these suspensions will affect the balance of power in college football?

Things to Do List

Make sure to secure your seats in the student section or else you'll miss out on all this fun.

In case you've been ignoring your calendar all summer, it's now August, and whether you want to admit it or not, school is right around the corner. So enjoy these last few weeks on the beach because before you know it, you'll be right back in class wondering where your summer went. But that doesn’t mean your return to school has to be as torturous as a trip to the dentist. In fact, there are plenty of things you can do upon returning to campus to get yourself in shape for the coming school year. Here are some items at the top of our "to do" list:

1) Buy an air conditioner. Chances are the weather won't be so bad when you return to campus, but have you been outside today? It's disgusting. You don’t want to have to endure this without A/C.

2) Join a college fantasy football league. We know it's not as popular as the NFL brand, but give it a chance. It's not as bad as you think.

3) Get your season tickets. You don't want to be that guy sitting with the class of 1957 because you were too lazy to secure tickets in the student section.

Those are our back-to-school suggestions. What are yours?

Trade Day in College Football

If we were Arizona State GM, we'd trade QB Sam Keller to the Texas for some bodies to shore up the offensive line.

Major League Baseball's trade deadline has passed, but all the activity got us thinking: What if trades were allowed in college football? We're not talking about the kind of salary dumps that the Phillies and Yankees settled on when Bobby Abreu went to the Evil Empire, but rather, fair trades that help two teams fill their respective weaknesses. Here are two we'd recommend.

Florida trades QB Chris Leak to USC for WR Steve Smith. The Gators have highly-touted QB Tim Tebow to replace Leak but still need a receiver to replace Chad Jackson, who is now a member of the New England Patriots. Florida receiver Andre Caldwell is still a question mark as he recovers from a broken right leg and Smith would provide another weapon for Tebow. The Trojans, meanwhile, are solid at receiver with Dwayne Jarrett but need an experienced QB to replace Matt Leinart and keep the position warm until John David Booty or Mark Sanchez take over.

Arizona State trades QB Sam Keller to Texas for guard Kasey Studdard and center Lyle Sendlein. The emergence of sophomore Rudy Carpenter makes Keller expendable, and the team needs to strengthen its offensive line. The Longhorns, meanwhile, are entering the post-Vince Young era with two freshman -- Colt McCoy and Jevan Snead -- ready to take the QB reins. We'd prefer to let them both sit for a year behind Keller. The loss of Studdard and Sendlein is a big one, but offensive linemen seem to grow on trees in Texas, so the Longhorns should be able to replace both players.

Now it's your turn to play GM. Tell us your best trade.
