Create a College Reality TV Show

Oakland Arena
Would you watch a reality show based on the lives of USC cheerleaders? So would we.

Seeing that most people under the age of 25 are more interested in Hoover High football and the Kristin-Stephen-Lauren love triangle than CSI and the 25 versions of Law and Order, we got to thinking. If high school reality shows like Two-a-Days and Laguna Beach are so popular, why hasn’t anyone produced a good college reality show? Sure, Tommy Lee Goes to College gave us a few laughs, and MTV's short-lived Fraternity Life and Sorority Life gave us reasons to never go Greek, but there’s still an enormous void in reality TV. Don't worry ... SIOC is ready to fill it. If you're a Hollywood executive looking for a new reality show, here are a few ideas that we think would be a Seinfeld-like (or at least My Super Sweet Sixteen-like) hit.

Trojan Chronicles – A look inside the lives of USC cheerleaders as they balance schoolwork, cheering and their social lives.

Cal’s Pals – A hidden camera follows Memphis' John Calipari and the shady characters he encounters as he hits the recruiting trail.

Bowden Knows Best – Simultaneously follows the lives of all four Bowdens – Bobby, Tommy, Terry and Jeff -- as they trek through a college football season.

Those are our ideas. What are yours?

Top Mascot Moments

There are a lot of things that demand your attention at a college football game: the action on the field, the cheerleaders, the student sections, to name a few. But nothing is more entertaining than the mascot. Though some mascots have made their reputation with dance, SIOC loves the ones who get into trouble. So, today we pay tribute to these furry friends with Great Moments in Mascot History. Here are our three favorites:

In 2000, Wisconsin was up big on Michigan State and after the Badgers scored yet another touchdown, Bucky (Wisconsin's mascot) stole the Michigan State Flag and ran around the stadium before he was tackled by a male cheerleader from Michigan State. The police soon came and broke up the altercation.

In 1992, Northwestern State mascot Vic the Demon got into an end zone brawl with Chief Brave Spirit, the mascot for Louisiana-Monroe. Even better than the fight, however, is the overly-dramatic analysis of the fight.

In 2006, UC Berkeley police spotted Erin Lashnits, aka the Stanford Tree, drinking from a flask during a basketball game. She was asked to take a breathalyzer at halftime and blew a .157 -- nearly double the legal limit. She was cited for public drunkenness and told to watch the rest of the game from the grandstand.

Now you tell us your greatest mascot moments.

Who's Your Heisman Winner?

Oakland Arena
Meet Northern Illinois' Garrett Wolfe, SIOC's pick for the Heisman.
Chris Bernacchi/SI
When the college football season began, the Heisman race was expected to be a three-man battle between Notre Dame's Brady Quinn, Ohio State's Troy Smith and Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson. We are now five weeks in and those three remain the frontrunners, but SIOC has a different choice and his name is Garrett Wolfe. The speedy 5-foot 7-inch tailback, who ran for 353 yards last weekend against Ball State, may be hurt by the fact that he plays for Northern Illinois, but it's hard to argue with the numbers:

Brady Quinn: 1,402 yards passing, 13 TD, 4 INT
Troy Smith: 1,071 yards passing, 12 TD, 2 INT
Adrian Peterson: 652 yards rushing (5.6 avg.), 8 TD
Garrett Wolfe: 1,182 yards rushing (9.2 avg.) 12 TD

Furthermore, Wolfe has proved that he can play against the nation's big boys, and not just the mid-majors. In 2005, against Michigan and Northwestern, Wolfe gained 393 ground yards on 51 attempts (7.7 avg.) and scored and four TDs. In this season's opener against No. 1 Ohio State, Wolfe ran for 171 yards and caught 5 passes for 114 yards and a TD. In other words, his status playing for a mid-major shouldn't be held against him. That's why Garrett Wolfe is SIOC's choice for the Heisman. Who is yours?
