Amy Dodson, Adrian, Mich. Marathon Dodson, 40, completed the St. George (Utah) Marathon in 3:53:24, lowering the world record for female below-the-knee amputees by more than 24 minutes. Dodson, a fifth-grade teacher, lost her left leg to cancer in 1983.
Paul Smith, Owasso, Okla. Football Paul, an Owasso High senior, broke the state career record for passing yards (7,402) during the school's fifth game of the season, a 49-14 win over Muskogee High. In that game Paul completed 17 of 27 passes for 438 yards and four touchdowns.
Jen Coleman, Madison, Wis. Badminton Coleman, a UC Irvine sophomore, won the singles title at USA Badminton's junior nationals in Orange, Calif.; she also won titles in doubles and mixed doubles. She holds No. 1 rankings in all three events for the 22-and-under age group.
Trish Ladusaw, Louisville Volleyball Ladusaw, a senior at Cincinnati, set a Conference USA career record for digs when she hit her 1,843rd during a match against George Mason. A two-time conference player of the year, through Sunday she was averaging 4.86 digs per game.
Gordon Withers, Irvine, Calif. Triathlon Gordon, 15, won the 19-and-under division of the City of Los Angeles Triathlon, finishing the course (one-mile swim, 26-mile bike and 6.6-mile run) in 2:06:19. Earlier this year Gordon won the Carlsbad Triathlon in the 16-and-under group.
Amber Silvis, Mount Orab, Ohio Soccer Amber, a senior at Western Brown High, became the leading girls' scorer in Ohio history when she made her 181st goal during a 2-1 win over Blanchester High. In her four seasons the school went 59-7-1 overall and 37-1 in Buckeye Conference play.
Mary Ellen Gordon, Lilburn, Ga.
Tennis Gordon, a junior at Emory, won the singles and doubles titles at the ITA National Championships. She became the fourth Division III player to sweep those events and the second to win two singles titles in her career. She also won the singles in 2000.
