Greg Rota, Grafton, Mass. Golf Rota, 38, coach at Westborough High, noticed that one of his players had filled out a scorecard incorrectly after the team had been handed the state championship trophy. Rota reported the error; the title went to Woburn High, whose team had already gone home.
Kevin Bostock, Whitefish, Mont. Soccer Kevin, a senior goalkeeper and team captain at Whitefish High, had 11 shutouts, including a stretch of 10 straight, to lead the Bulldogs to a 15-0 record and a Class A state title. For the year Whitefish outscored its opponents 70-4.
Caitlin Burke, Cedarburg, Wis. Tennis Caitlin, a senior at Cedarburg High, defeated Katie Potts of Divine Savior Holy Angels High 6-2, 6-1 to win her fourth straight Division I singles title. Caitlin went 108-0 for her high school career and did not drop a set in competition.
Christa Downey, Geneseo, N.Y. Volleyball Downey, a Nazareth College senior and two-time All-America, moved to second in Division III total kills when she hit her 2,458th in a match against SUNY Brockport. She leads Division III this year with 985 kills and has 2,904 in her career.
Karen Einsidler, Tenafly, N.J. Swimming Einsidler, a 46-year-old lawyer, won all five races she entered at the U.S. Masters Long Course championships in Cleveland. She set world records for the 45-49 age group in the 400-meter individual medley and the 1,500-meter freestyle.
Don Rodgers, Bowling Green, Ky. Football Rodgers, a sophomore wide receiver at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., blocked three punts that were all returned for touchdowns in a 36-31 victory over Rhodes (Tenn.) College. Defensive back Nate Murphy made all three touchdown returns.
Sara Weaver, Naples, Fla.
Triathlon Weaver, 38, won two triathlons in five weeks. She won the inaugural Duke Blue Devil Ironman in Durham, N.C., then defended her title at the Great Floridian Triathlon in Clermont, Fla. In 2001 Weaver set a Clermont course record of 10:34:56.
