Allison Shaw, Selma, Ind.
Volleyball
Allison, a Wapahani High junior, had 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage as she led the Raiders to a win in the state title game over defending champion Michigan City Marquette. This was the first state title for Wapahani (enrollment: 346) in any sport.
Bob Hahn, Ventura, Calif.
Canoeing
Hahn, a 61-year-old high school guidance counselor, won five gold medals, five silvers and three bronzes at the World Masters Games in Melbourne, Australia. One of his golds, in a two-person 500-meter race, came in the 35-and-over age group.
Megan Kaltenbach, Aurora, Colo.
Cross-country
Megan, a senior at Smoky Hill High, won the state 5A title in 18:21.3, edging her sister, Katelyn, a sophomore, by .2 seconds. The next finisher was almost 19 seconds behind. This was Megan's fourth consecutive state title.
Josh Chapman, Webb City, Mo.
Football
Chapman, a Missouri Southern State College senior quarterback, threw for 2,398 yards and rushed for 1,010, making him the second player to exceed 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in a season. The other was Clemson's Woody Dantzler in 2001.
Brandon Thomas, Orlando
Wakeskating
Thomas, 19, won his second consecutive title at the Cable Wakeboard National Championships in Deerfield Beach, Fla. Championships were awarded in eight different events; Thomas was the only competitor to successfully defend a title from 2001.
Peggy Arvallo, Phoenix
Badminton
Peggy, a South Mountain High senior, won the state 5A individual championship for the second year in a row. She is the youngest of five sisters, all of whom have won a state individual, doubles or team title in badminton.
Ben Dewar, Wixom, Mich.
Basketball
Dewar, a senior guard at Lake Superior State, set a tournament record by scoring 90 points (with games of 34, 25 and 31) at the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic. The previous record of 89 was set in 1998 by Titus Warmsley of Montana State-Billings.
