Katie Ridd, Fairfax, Va. Field Hockey Ridd, a Wake Forest junior goalkeeper, held opponents scoreless in the four rounds of the NCAA championships as the Demon Deacons won their first national title in a women's sport. Wake Forest is the second team in the 21-year-old tournament to not allow a goal.

		Helen Walker, Carlsbad, N.Mex. Golf Walker, an 82-year-old great-grandmother of five, had the low net score (which includes handicap) by five strokes among eight players at the ladies championship of the Riverside Country Club. Her victory came four months after she had knee replacement surgery.

Zepherinus Joseph, Mon Repos, St. Lucia Cross-country Joseph, a University of North Florida senior, set the course record in four of the five meets he competed in this year. He was cowinner of the Division II cross-country male athlete of the year award -- the first Osprey to earn such an honor in running.

		Bruce Diehl, Covington, Wash. Tennis Diehl, 43, coached the Auburn Riverside High boys' tennis team to a perfect season. The Ravens shut out every opponent in their 15-match regular season and did not lose any of 79 individual matches as they won the South Puget Sound North League title.

Erika Howland, Terrace Park, Ohio Soccer Howland, an Ohio Wesleyan junior forward, scored the only goal in the Battling Bishops' 1-0 win over Messiah College in the Division III title game. Howland, who also had a goal and an assist in the semis, was named the tournament's offensive MVP.

		Brandon McLain, Costa Mesa, Calif. Water Polo McLain, a Golden West Community College sophomore, blocked a penalty shot with 2:26 remaining and blocked two more shots in the final 72 seconds as the school won the community college state finals 6-5 over West Valley. He was named MVP of the tournament.

Marilyn Nolen, St. Louis Volleyball Nolen, the coach at Saint Louis, reached her 800th career victory when the Billikens swept Marquette in the opening round of the Conference USA tournament. Only four coaches have won 800 matches in Division I.
