Megan Helsen, Ravenna, Mich. Volleyball Megan, a senior at Ravenna High, set a national high school record with 986 kills this season. She also broke five school records with 351 career blocks (129 this season), 1,473 digs (638 this season) and 289 career aces.
Keith Weiser, Hamilton, Ohio Baseball Keith, a senior southpaw at Talawanda High in Oxford, Ohio, went 8-0 this year, with one no-hitter, four shutouts and an ERA of 0.00. He struck out 94 batters in 54 innings and gave up only three walks. Keith was named conference player of the year.
Krista Peterson, Bloomington, Ind. Water Polo Peterson, a sophomore forward at Indiana, led the Hoosiers to the conference championship and their first-ever berth in the NCAA tournament, scoring five goals and assisting on another in a 7-5 win over Brown. She was MVP of the conference tournament.
Brad Lawrence, Greenwood, S.C.
Golf and Bowling
Lawrence, 23, a hardware store clerk, made a hole in one on the par-3, 182-yard 17th hole at the Stony Point Golf Club during the Greenwood County Law Enforcement tournament. Four and a half hours later he bowled a 300 game in league play at the Expo 300.
Bridget Mulhern, San Francisco Lacrosse Mulhern, a junior attack at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, scored 63 goals and led the Mustangs to their third straight U.S. Lacrosse Intercollegiate Association national championship. She was named Intercollegiate Player of the Year for the second straight year.
Ron Christy, Stratford, Conn. Basketball Christy, a junior guard at Teikyo Post University, led the Eagles to their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship. He scored 50 points in the title game, a school record. This season he averaged 27.1 points and 7.1 rebounds.
Mike Dau, Chicago Handball Dau, 67, head coach at Lake Forest College, has taken the Foresters to 23 national championships (11 men's, three women's and nine combined), including this year's combined and women's titles. He has been the coach since the program's inception, in 1969.
