Katie Lambert, Easton, Mass. Lacrosse Lambert, a senior attack at Stonehill College, led the Chieftains to their first NCAA Division II national championship. She ended her career as the leading scorer in women's Division II history, with 220 goals over four seasons.
Mandy Carnes, New Concord, Ohio Softball Carnes, a senior first baseman at Muskingum College, led the Ohio Athletic Conference in homers (13), runs (49) and RBIs (50), and had the highest on-base percentage (.533) and slugging percentage (.816) on her team. She was a four-time first-team All-America.
Robbie Lim, Honolulu Tennis Robbie, a junior at Punahou School, won his second straight Hawaii high school state championship. He overcame heat exhaustion and leg cramps in the quarterfinals, fought back from the brink of elimination in the semis, then took the finals 6-0, 6-0.
Bethany Hunter, Lynchburg, Va.
Ultramarathon
Hunter, a 24-year-old exercise physiologist, lowered the women's record by 52 minutes in the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100-Mile Run in Front Royal, Va. She completed the 101.8 miles in 24:40:00, finishing fifth overall in a starting field of 117 runners.
Harley Davis, Salt Lake City Diving Harley, a senior at Highland High, is the first male springboard diver in Utah to win the 4A State Diving Championship three years in a row. He was also a four-time champion in the one-meter and three-meter events at the Colorado State Invitational.
Kathleen LaValley, Ada, Mich. Track and Field Kathleen, a sophomore at Forest Hills Central, was undefeated in her conference in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as the 300-meter hurdles. At the state championships she set a state-final meet record in the 300-meter hurdles, 42.89 seconds.
Steve Plucinski, Mundelein, Ill. Baseball Plucinski, a sophomore righthander at Lakeland College, tied an NCAA Division III record by striking out 22 batters as the Muskies beat Edgewood College 6-0. The win gave Lakeland its third consecutive Lake Michigan Conference championship.
