Eric Duncan, Florham Park, N.J.
Baseball
Eric, a senior third baseman at Seton Hall Prep, drove in the winning run to give the Pirates the state Parochial A championship. He set school records in batting average (.536), homers (12), hits (52) and RBIs (60), and was the New York Yankees' first-round draft pick.
Michelle Acosta, Midland, Texas
Basketball
Acosta, a senior guard at Graceland University, became the Yellowjackets' first All-America in women's basketball and led the Heart of America Athletic Conference in scoring (692 points), assists (156) and steals (128).
Albert Childress, Grundy, Va.
Wrestling
Albert, a senior at Grundy High, won the Group AA 275-pound state championship, thus becoming the second U.S. high school wrestler to win four state heavyweight titles. His 171 career wins are a Virginia High School League Group AA record.
Erica Whipple, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Track and Field
Whipple, who just completed her sophomore year at South Carolina, won the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 100 meters at the SEC track and field championships. She accumulated the most points at the meet, earning the Commissioner's Trophy.
Joshua Raff, Haverford, Pa.
Tennis
Joshua, a graduating senior at the Haverford School and captain of the team, won his fourth Inter-Academic League singles championship. A member of the varsity team since the sixth grade, he had 60 wins in league play and 90 wins overall.
Brianne McGowan, Reno
Softball
Brianne, a righthander and recent graduate of Earl Wooster High, led the Colts to their fourth consecutive 4A state championship. Her career record was 92-7, including seven perfect games, 19 no-hitters, 73 shutouts and an 0.31 ERA.
Jeff Jorgensen, Roswell, Ga.
Rowing
Jorgensen, a recent graduate of the University of Washington and stroke on the Huskies' four, collected his third gold medal at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships. He previously won as a member of the open four crew and the varsity pair.
