Andy Fryman, Maysville, Ky. Track and Field Fryman, a 2003 graduate of Mason County High, won the discus with a state-record throw of 194 feet, 11 inches and took the shot put title with a Class 2A-record 65 feet, 7 1/2 inches at the Kentucky Class 2A state championships.
Courtney Brown, Stratham, N.H. Rowing Brown, a recent graduate of Harvard College, was co-captain and rowed the seven seat for the Radcliffe heavyweight crew, helping it win the varsity race that clinched the NCAA team title. It was the Harvard heavyweight's first national championship in 30 years.
Sagar Mistry, Brigantine, N.J. Archery Mistry, who recently completed his studies at Atlantic Cape Community College, won the men's recurve division at the U.S. outdoor archery championships in Carbondale, Ill. In March he placed first in recurve at the indoor championships in Harrisonburg, Va.
Ashley Keeler, Eagan, Minn.
Softball
Keeler, a righthander and recent graduate of Eastview High, threw her third shutout in three tournament games, and her second in the span of six hours, to give her school its first Class 3A state softball championship. She finished the season with a record of 17-3.
Brent Rasmussen, Omaha Wheelchair Softball Rasmussen, 26, a mortgage broker and leftfielder for the Nebraska Barons, got nine hits, including two homers, and drew six intentional walks at the five-game Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Wheelchair Softball Tournament. He was voted MVP.
Jessica Eldridge, Broken Arrow, Okla. Track and Field Eldridge, a recent graduate of Broken Arrow High, won the 800 and 1,600 meters and anchored the winning 1,600-meter relay at Oklahoma's Class 5A championships. She was named the state's Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
Victor D'Alessio, Port Orange, Fla. Cycling D'Alessio, 83, a retired tool and die maker who is battling lung cancer, won a gold medal in the 20K road race (80-84 age group) and silver medals in the 40K road race and 5K time trials at the 2003 National Senior Games, in Hampton Roads, Va.
