do, get in the shade and apply ice or a cold compress to relieve inflammation,

| Type 1 | Red or blonde hair and very sensitive, fair, freckled skin that always burns and never tans. | Use fragrance-free moisturizing screens with at least SPF 30 and chemical-free (nonirritating) zinc blocks. |
| Type 2 | Skin that burns easily and tans minimally. | Take the same precautions as Type 1, although your skin can tolerate stronger chemical sunscreens such as avobenzone and oxybenzone. |
| Type 3 | Darker skin that sometimes burns and gradually tans. | Use screens with at least SPF 15. For the face, look for liquids and gels that won't clog pores; avoid sticks and sprays. |
