BRIANA SCURRY , 27 [Goalkeeper]

A soccer goal is eight feet high and 24 feet wide. U.S. goalie Briana Scurry should not be able to blanket every corner and angle of the goal -- yet she seems to do just that. "I'm pretty instinctive," the Minnesota native says. "When people are shooting on me, I sense where they're going to aim. I go there, and it ends up looking like a brilliant save."

Last year Scurry made plenty of brilliant saves, finishing with 15 wins and 12 shutouts in 17 starts. Alas, Scurry doesn't get much opportunity to show off her skills; the U.S. team tends to keep the ball in the opponent's half of the field. But she's prepared for whatever comes her way. Says Scurry, "I love knowing that I can control the outcome of the game myself."
