Athletes define toughness in different ways. To some it's a style of play; to others it's an attitude. We asked WNBA players whom they think is the toughest player they've ever faced. Here's what they told us:

NIKKI McCRAY
WASHINGTON MYSTICS GUARD
"[Bolton-Holifield] works just as hard as I do and I think that I'm the hardest-working player. Whenever she is out there she just gives everything."

JENNIFER GILLOM
PHOENIX MERCURY FORWARD-CENTER
"[Houston Comets guard Cynthia Cooper] is just a confident player and a veteran and she knows how to win games."

TINA THOMPSON
HOUSTON COMETS FORWARD
"[Gillom] is simply the toughest player I've ever played against."

TICHA PENICHEIRO
SACRAMENTO MONARCHS GUARD
"[Weatherspoon and Houston Comets forward Sheryl Swoopes]. There have been so many that's it's hard to name just one."

CYNTHIA COOPER
HOUSTON COMETS GUARD
"[New York Liberty forward Vickie Johnson] is quick and can jump out of the gym, plus she has a "never give up" attitude."

RUTHIE BOLTON-HOLIFIELD
SACRAMENTO MONARCHS GUARD
"[New York guard Liberty Teresa Weatherspoon] always plays me hard defensively but this season I've got something for her. She's a great defensive player. I have a hard time against her because she really commits to playing defense."

JENNIFER AZZI
DETROIT SHOCK GUARD
"[Teresa Edwards, late of ABL's Philadelphia Rage] is the best player ever to play the women's game. She can, pass, shoot, dribble; she's just explosive in all areas of the game."
