Born: January 14, 1977, Kingston, Jamaica

Residence: Greenbelt, Md.

Upcoming Event: 1999 NCAA Indoor National Track & Field Championships, Indianapolis, Ind., March 5-6

Worth Watching Because: The 12-time All-America and six-time NCAA champion from the University of Texas dominates the collegiate scene in the 400 meters. At the Cannon IV Classic in early February the senior sprinter set a meet and school record in the event (51.58) and also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay helping Texas establish a new collegiate record (3:30.27). Reid, the reigning NCAA indoor and outdoor champion in the 400, is favored to win both again this year. She has not lost a 400m race since 1997 and could challenge the indoor record in Indianapolis.

The Longhorns women sucessfully defended their Big 12 indoor title on February 20 and are a good bet to take a second consecutive NCAA indoor title. Texas also holds the women's Big 12 and NCAA outdoor titles. In June, Reid will try to become the first woman in NCAA history to be a part of four straight 4x400 outdoor championship relays.

Reid, who did not qualify for the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, has a good chance to move into the top level of international competition. Running in the best shape of her life, Reid could soon show the world what she can do.

Greatest Success: Winning the indoor and outdoor 400m national championships in 1998.

Quote/Unquote: Reid, after winning her second NCAA outdoor championship in three tries: "I am the truth."

Cool Fact: Reid moved to the U.S. from Jamaica at age 11. She has dual citizenship.
