BERCHTESGADEN, Germany (AP) -- Sabine Egger, fighting thick fog, edged fellow Austrian Ingrid Salvenmoser by one-hundreths of a second Friday at a slalom World Cup event.

In a dramatic finish in fog thickening with every competitor, Egger won her first World Cup title and the first for Austria since 1995.

Egger, leader after the first run, sped down the course in on minute 46.81 seconds as the last skier while Salvenmoser was at 1:46.82 in the first World Cup race held at Berchtesgaden in 12 years.

'The fog was so bad you could only fight your way downhill and see what happened when you finished,' said Salvenmoser.

Sweden's Pernilla Wiberg, after her dramatic comeback triumph at Maribor two weeks ago, finished third in 1:46.93 and retained the overall slalom lead with 365 points.

Egger, second overall at 351, became the sixth different winner in six slalom races this season.

The 21-year-old Egger, three times second in her career, seized the lead in the first run. Starting sixth, she blazed to theevening's best run of 52.41 seconds before soft snow from the rain and warm temperatures carved deep ruts.

But the tables turned on the second run as Slovenia's Spela Pretnar, 13th on the first run, held the lead for a long time as thick fog deepened on the slope.

Pretnar finished fourth
