In a game of few clear-cut chances Bolton took the lead when Bruno N'Gotty's free-kick found its way through to Stelios who scored after 66. But Andreas Johansson capitalised on an error from Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen to equalise. Bolton were without Jay-Jay Okocha, El-Hadji Diouf, Abdoulaye Faye and Radhi Jaidi who were all on African Cup of Nations duty and coach Sam Allardyce said: "It was a disappointing result, but the squad put in a tremendous effort considering the number of players we are without. I just hoped for the players' benefit we could have won this game 1-0, having just slipped up at Portsmouth. It was a spirited show from us against Wigan after a very good start." Bolton's chairman Phil Gartside has said he will not stand in Allardyce's way if he is offered the England job. But he added that Allardyce did not want to leave Bolton for the vacant post at Newcastle United. On Saturday, Bolton will be out to record their third successive win of the season against Arsenal having beaten them 2-0 at home in the Premiership and 1-0 in the FA Cup.
