But in the Premiership the Reds lost to the Blues again, a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge following the 4-1 defeat at Anfield earlier in the season. Chelsea's superior finishing proved the difference as they scored through William Gallas and Hernan Crespo. Liverpool's hopes were not helped when goalkeeper Jose Reina was sent off for shoving Arjen Robben in the face although the Dutchman was widely criticised for 'acting' an forcing the referee to show a red card. Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez was incensed: "If that was a red card it was crazy. I know Reina made a mistake by touching Robben's face but when the player went down it looked as though he would spend a week in the hospital. It was crazy that we had to play with 10 men because of that." To make matters worse for Liverpool, they then suffered their third league defeat in four games going down 2-0 at Charlton Athletic. Darren Bent opened the scoring after a controversial penalty decision and Luke Young added Charlton's second goal. Meanwhile, the Argentine club Banfield say their 20 year-old defender Gabriel Paletta will travel to England this weekend to open talks about a summer move to Liverpool. On Saturday, Liverpool will be away to Wigan Athletic having beaten them 3-0 at home in December.
