David Weir's scrambled early goal was enough for the home team to win, City's new signing Georgios Samaras missing their best chance when he headed over. Stephen Jordan was sent off late on following a second booking. City coach Stuart Pearce commented: "We have got a hang-up on the road at the minute. We didn't get out of the traps - and they were told because you have to get out of the traps and scrap against Everton. We have to be a bit more hard-nosed on our travels." Joey Barton's agent says they are waiting to hear from the club about re-opening contract negotiations. Barton had originally turned down City's offer of a new contract and handed in a transfer request, which was rejected. Barton has since admitted he was wrong to demand a move and wants to commit his future to the club. On Sunday, City host Charlton Athletic who are just on point and one place below them.
