Caretaker Coach: Glenn Roeder (since February, 2006) Premiership
Record: 8-11-5
Rank: 15th, 29 points
Last Result: 2-0 win vs. Portsmouth, February 4
Streak: Won 1 Next Game: at Aston Villa, February 11 FA Cup Last Result: 4th Round 2-0 win at Cheltenham, January 28 Next Game: 5th Round vs. Southampton, February 18 There is nothing like a change at the helm to fire up the shipmates and with Alan Shearer breaking Jackie Milburn's all-time Newcastle scoring record in the process Saturday's 2-0 win versus Portsmouth will be long remembered. Charles N'Zogbia put Newcastle ahead shortly before half-time and then n 64th minute Shearer picked up Shola Ameobi's back-heel and scored his 201st goal for The Magpies. Caretaker coach Glenn Roeder said: "It couldn't have been more perfect, in my opinion. Winning 2-0 was the perfect result, but then throw into the mix Alan Shearer breaking the record, then you have got the lot, haven't you? The way he scored the goal, there have been so many Shearer goals like that." Shearer, himself, added: "I'm a very happy man tonight. I know what Jackie means and meant to the people. I can now sleep easy that the pressure has gone." On Saturday, Newcastle are away to Aston Villa who are currently one point and two places above them. The two clubs tied 1-1 at St. James' Park in December.
