*Southampton Team Report* ------------------------- Coach: Harry Redknapp (since December 2004) Premiership Record: 61814 (RELEGATED) Rank: 20th, 32 points Last Result: 2-1 loss vs. Manchester United, May 15 Streak: Lost 1 After a 27-year stay in the top flight, Southampton finally succumbed to the threat of relegation. Needing at least a point from their game versus Manchester United and results to go their way elsewhere, Saints' hopes soared when a Graeme Le Saux corner was bundled in via United's John O'Shea. But United responded quickly through Darren Fletcher and by the time Ruud van Nistelrooy headed United in front, Saints were heading down, the result ultimately leaving them bottom of the table. Coach Harry Redknapp, who subsequently agreed to stay on at the club next season, said: "It's hard to put into words how I feel but you have to get on with it. This club deserves Premiership football. The fans were magnificent. It's a really good club this and I know for sure that they will be back ... I've no regrets at all coming here, not a chance." But changes in the playing squad will be made. Loan signings Henri Camara and Calum Davenport are set to return to Wolves and Tottenham respectively, Olivier Bernard is on a short-term contract and unlikely to stay, Graeme Le Saux may retire, while those who could be released include Anders Svensson, Darren Kenton, Jo Tessem, Jamie Redknapp, Brett Ormerod and Jason Dodd. Whether the likes of Kevin Phillips and new England call-up Peter Crouch will stay at St. Mary's remains to be seen.
