Since winning the starting job in a hotly contested battle with Kasey Keller, Friedel has arguably been the best keeper of the Cup. His penalty kick save against South Korea (one of two he's stopped in the tournament) made the difference in qualifying for the second round, in which Friedel pitched the first World Cup shutout by the U.S. since 1950.
