DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Rapids are back from a successful tour in Portugal with two new players and a new look.

The team acquired midfielder John Spencer and forward Neathan Gibson. Spencer, of top-flight Scottish team Motherwell, scored 13 goals in 32 games last season, and Gibson was with MyPa 47 in Finland, scoring 12 goals last season.

The two are "discovery" players, meaning the Rapids still have their pick to land a higher-priced marquee player.

The Rapids got the two after going 4-1 in a tour of Portugal. The only loss was 1-0 to Sporting Lisbon.

New coach Tim Hankinson said he was pleased with the way the team was playing so far.

"There were games we defended well, organizationally," Hankinson said. "Our guys stayed very patient, very disciplined."

The Rapids have also unveiled a new uniform design. The home-game shirts will now be solid green, rather than green with white designs, while the away-shirt will be solid white.

The shirts will also be made of tighter-fitting Lycra to draw moisture away from the body and keep the players cooler, General Manager Dan Counce said.

"It's a more traditional kind of a look of a jersey but because of the material it has a very modern, sleek look," Counce said.

The team will have one more week of training at its Westminster facility before flying to south Florida to take part in a two-week tournament with the other Major League Soccer teams.

The Rapids open their MLS season April 7, on the road against Miami.
