CHICAGO (AP) -- Dema Kovalenko and Chris Armas scored to lead the Chicago Fire to a 2-0 victory over the Dallas Burn on Saturday night in the decisive third game of their MLS quarterfinal series.

Chicago, which advanced to the MLS semifinals for the third time in four seasons, limited the Burn to one goal and won the series 2-0-1.

"We came out with a great mentality," Fire coach Bob Bradley told the Chicago Daily Herald. "We were determined we were going to play on our terms. We did a good job of that."

Fire captain Peter Nowak was involved in both Fire goals.

"Competition is important," Bradley told the newspaper. "And it all starts with Peter. He is unbelievably competitive, day in and day out."

The Fire, 9-0 in playoff games at Soldier Field, will face the Los Angeles Galaxy in a three-game semifinal series, beginning Oct. 10.

Kovalenko opened the scoring in the 17th minute, and Armas, who returned from injuries and a commitment to the U.S. national team, slipped a shot past Burn goalkeeper Matt Jordan in the 55th minute.

Chicago midfielder Diego Gutierrez received a yellow card for the third consecutive game, drawing an automatic one-game suspension to be served in the first game of the semifinals.
