NEW YORK (AP) -- Miami Fusion midfielder Alex Pineda Chacon was honored Friday as Major League Soccer's most valuable player.

The 31-year-old Honduran star led the league in scoring with 19 goals and 47 points. He also topped MLS with seven game-winning goals and was the player of the week four times.

Pineda edged fellow finalists Diego Serna of Miami and Jeff Agoos of San Jose in voting by MLS coaching staffs, general managers, players and the Professional Soccer Reporter's Association.
