FRISCO, Texas (Ticker) -- Both FC Dallas and the Colorado Rapids each blew chances to improve their playoff positioning when the teams played to a 0-0 draw.
Dallas (13-10-8) would have secured the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs, along with home-field advantage in the first round, with a victory. They hold a two-point edge over Los Angeles (13-12-6) with only one game remaining.
The Rapids (12-13-5) moved within three points of the Galaxy but the California side owns the tiebreak, which means Colorado is locked into the fourth seed and will face San Jose in the first round.
Young Rapids' keeper Byron Foss had a scare in the 75th minute as he tussled over the ball with Abe Thompson. The FC Dallas striker could not gain control and Foss managed to clear it only to have Bobby Rhine take a shot which Foss got a hand on to deflect wide.
Colorado midfielder Dedi Ben-Dayan came close to scoring his fifth goal in as many games games in the 82nd minute. Ben-Dayan controlled a long cross from Terry Cooke on the left side of the penalty area then juked a defender before launching a powerful right-footed shot that was deflected by goalkeeper Dario Sala to maintain the scoreless tie.
