The Kansas City Wizards battled D.C. United to a 1-1 draw on a chilly fall night at RFK Stadium on Saturday in the two teams' regular-season finale. Preki put the Wizards ahead in the 17th minute, but D.C. equalized in the 57th minute and the teams were unable to break the deadlock before time expired.
Following the match, the Wizards learned they clinched the second seed in the Western Conference and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs after the Colorado Rapids lost to the Dallas Burn 4-3.
The Wizards will begin their quest for MLS Cup on November 4 when they take on the Colorado Rapids at INVESCO Field in Denver in the first round of the playoffs. The first match of the two-game series will kickoff at 8:30 p.m. CT.
Preki captured the first MLS postseason award on Sunday afternoon by winning the MLS scoring title. Preki closed out the 2003 regular season with 41 points (12 goals, 17 assists), becoming the first player in MLS history to lead the league in scoring in two different years.
