Filling the holes U.S. adds four players to roster for Germany gamePosted: Thursday January 28, 1999 03:42 PM
CHICAGO (AP) -- Defenders Carlos Llamosa and midfielder Brian Kamler were added Wednesday to the U.S. roster for the Feb. 6 exhibition game against Germany, giving D.C. United seven players on the Americans' 20-man roster. Bruce Arena, the former coach of D.C. United, was hired last fall as coach of the national team. Since his hiring, the U.S. team has played scoreless ties against Australia and Bolivia. Also added to the roster were a pair of midfielders who play in Germany, Frankie Hejduk of Bayer Leverkusen and Tony Sanneh of Hertha Berlin. Defender Gregg Berhalter of Cambuur Leeuwarden in the Netherlands and midfielder Clint Mathis of the Los Angeles Galaxy -- both on the roster for Sunday's game at Bolivia, were dropped. Kamler is joining the national team for the first time. Llamosa missed the Bolivia game, serving a one-game suspension for his ejection against Australia. Germany, the defending European champion, pounded the Americans 2-0 last June in the World Cup opener for both teams. Following the Feb. 6 game at Jacksonville, the Germans play an exhibition game against Colombia at Miami on Feb. 9.
