NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Members of the world champion U.S. women's soccer team will make a 12-city "Victory Tour" starting in October, playing indoor exhibition matches against a team of international stars, organizers announced Thursday.

The two-month tour, sponsored by Toys 'R' Us, will begin Oct. 22 in Pittsburgh and end with a Dec. 15 date in Portland, Ore.

Matches also will be played in indoor arenas in Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia, East Rutherford, N.J., Washington, Raleigh, Anaheim, San Jose and Tacoma.

"We're excited and can't wait for the games to start," said U.S. team captain Carla Overbeck, whose defensive effort earned her Player of the Game honors in the World Cup final triumph over China. "We're gonna have a blast."

Plans call for team members to hold soccer clinics in the cities where they are playing to renew the enthusiasm they generated during their U.S. summer run to the World Cup title.

"We're going to continue to spread the word of soccer and a little bit of love and fun," said midfielder Brandi Chastain, who scored the winning penalty kick in the Cup final.

Defender Joy Fawcett said the ultimate goal of launching a professional women's soccer league in the United States would have to wait until after the Sydney Olympics -- another platform the U.S. women hope to use to further their cause.

"I think the pressure's there," Fawcett said. "If we do well in the Olympics, we'll do well here."
