U.S. women rout Portugal in Algarve Cup

LISBON, Portugal (AP) -- Cindy Parlow scored three goals as the United States thrashed host country Portugal 7-0 Sunday in the opening round of the Algarve Cup, an international women's soccer tournament staged in southern Portugal.
Parlow opened the scoring for the defending world champions in the fifth minute, scored again six minutes later and capped the hat trick with a header at the 63rd. Shannon McMillan, Joy Fawcett, Tisha Venturini and Julie Foudy also scored.
In the other Group A game, Sweden notched a 1-0 victory against Denmark.
In Group B, Sun Wen scored twice as China defeated Canada 4-0, while Norway beat Finland 2-0.
After further group games on Tuesday and Thursday, the championship will be decided in Saturday's final.
Four of the eight nations competing in the tournament will be participating in the Sydney Olympics.
