Gama to sue over ineligible players
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) -- Local soccer team Gama is threatening to go to court to sue Rio's Vasco da Gama, charging the Rio team has used ineligible players in Brazilian championship games, media reported Monday. The charges center around Jorginho Paulista, who played for Vasco in their 1-0 victory over Gama two weeks ago. According to the Lancenet Web page, Gama believes the player, recently signed from Italy's Udinense, was playing before his documents were actually processed by the Brazilian Soccer Confederation registrar. The Brazilian team is demanding the points for lost game in return. Another club, Flamengo, is also reportedly threatening to sue Vasco, in hopes the Rio team will be stripped of all its points in the current Brazilian championships, where Vasco holds second place, Flamengo 16th and Gama is tied for 21st place. No one was available at Vasco or Gama to comment on the reports.
