Still winless Derby's woes continue after 0-0 draw with West Ham
LONDON (Reuters) -- Derby County remained stuck at the foot of the English Premier League after being held to a 0-0 home draw by West Ham United on Monday night. Derby is still searching for its first league win of the season -- it has drawn five and lost one match at home -- and is the only team in the four English divisions yet to taste victory. They did little in the way of organized attacking in a game of few clear chances. West Ham was the more enterprising side, and Paolo Di Canio almost lit up a dull night with a rare piece of brilliance 10 minutes from time when he connected with a spectacular volley from wide on the right, but the ball flew straight at Derby keeper Matt Poom. The point takes West Ham up one place to 15th on 12 points with Derby bottom on six points, one adrift of Bradford City, which sacked manager Chris Hutchings earlier on Monday. In transfer news, defender Kevin McKenna, currently with German club Energie Cottbus, is awaiting word on a possible transfer to London's West Ham. Scottish league-leader Celtic is reported to be interested in Canadian captain Jason deVos of Dundee United. And striker Paul Peschisolido, who scored in his debut for London's Queens Park Rangers on the weekend, hopes to make the move permanent, according to reports. He is currently on a one-month loan from Fulham, another English First Division team.
