LONDON (AP) -- Former England coach Terry Venables is thinking over a move back into English soccer as Bryan Robson's partner in charge of struggling Middlesbrough.

Although the club issued a firm "no comment" on Sunday, Venables was reported to have met owner Robson, owner Steve Gibson and chief executive Keith Lamb during the week.

"There's a huge job to be done at Middlesbrough and they are struggling in the league at the moment," Venables told the News of the World on Sunday.

"I only thought I would return to management for the England job, but if ever two people could change my mind, it's Gibson and Robson.

"I have a lot of big decisions to make now. I have many commitments outside football and this is something I must think long and hard about," said Venables, who has successful spells in charge of Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers, Tottenham and Barcelona.

Reports speculated that Venables' role would be with regard to tactics and technical skills while Robson would remain in charge of selecting the team and hiring players.

"Bryan and Steve are totally committed to Middlesbrough and I admire their devotion," the former England coach said. "After meeting them together, it is clear they are determined to bring success to Middlesbrough."

Boro ended a bleak run of seven losses with 2-2 tie against last place Bradford on Saturday after coming back from two goals down.

Robson's team is second from last despite the fact that the former England captain has spent 78 million pounds (US$117 million) on players since Gibson appointed him in May 1994.
