PARIS (Reuters) -- Factfile on Zinedine Zidane, winner the FIFA World Player of the Year award for 2000:

Born: June 23, 1972 in Marseille

Playing career:

1988-1992 Cannes

1992-1996 Girondins Bordeaux

1996-present Juventus (Italy)

Playing record:

Joined Cannes in 1988, made his debut a year later and was a French youth international by 1990.

Transferred to Bordeaux in 1992 and helped it to the 1996 UEFA Cup final, where it lost to Bayern Munich.

Joined Juventus in 1996 and won Italian league championship medals in his first two seasons in Serie A.

Has played in two European Champions Cup finals for Juventus.

International record:

62 caps for France and 16 international goals.

Helped France to victory in the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championships.

Was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 1998, as well as European Footballer of the Year, World Soccer Magazine Player of the Year and French Sportsman of the Year.

Miscellaneous:

Scored twice on his international debut for France against the Czech Republic in 1994, the year he was named Young Player of the Year in France.

Escaped unhurt from high speed car accident in 1996.
