LONDON (Reuters) -- England captain David Beckham is set for a contract battle with Manchester United as he holds out for a better deal, British newspapers reported on Sunday.

The Sunday People said the Premier League champions might be prepared to meet Beckham's demands for an increase in salary worth up to 70,000 pounds sterling a week (US$105,200) but wanted him to commit to a five-year deal.

"Beckham's advisors, however, want only a two-year contract -- which will allow the 25-year-old star to look at options on the continent when he is at the peak of his football powers," the article said.

The Mail on Sunday said news that the United board could be fighting a losing battle in getting Beckham to sign was bound to attract top European clubs.

"Only last year he snubbed an approach from Barcelona but the Spanish giants plus Juventus and Real Madrid are still waiting in the wings," the Mail on Sunday reported.

In another backpage report, the Sunday People said Bradford City striker Stan Collymore was set to join German side Stuttgart less than two months after signing with the Premier League club.

"Collymore is expected to sign a two-year deal with Stuttgart within the next 48 hours," the People reported.
