LA CORUNA, Spain (AP) -- Goals by Victor Sanchez and Djalminha gave Deportivo de La Coruna a 2-0 victory over Galatasaray Istanbul in Group B of the Champions League Tuesday, resuscitating the Spanish side's hopes of making it to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Deportivo now has six points from four games while Galatasaray stays with seven.

The Spanish champion outclassed its Turkish counterpart for most of the match. Victor fired the first goal in from six meters (yards) five minutes before the break after the ball bounced to him when teammate Brazilian Djalminha had a shot blocked by a Galatasaray defender.

The Turkish side's chances of equalizing took a blow in the 60th minute when the side was left with 10 men after the expulsion of defender Vedat Inceefe, who got a second a yellow card for a tough tackle on Victor.

Galatasaray only came genuinely close to scoring once when, in the first half, Mario Jardel headed the ball back from eight yards (meters) and goalie Jacques Songo'o had to dive to snatch it off the line.

Victor had a second goal disallowed in the 70th for a foul. But Deportivo was able to secure the victory in the 73rd when Djalminha drove the ball home from a penalty kick called for midfielder Ahmet Yildirim's handplay inside the area.

Galatasaray defeated Deportivo 1-0 when they met last week.
