LONDON (AP) -- Edmilson powered in a last minute header to earn Lyon a 1-1 tie with Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday to make up for the injustice of the Gunners' first half strike by Dennis Bergkamp.

The Brazilian headed home a corner by Vikash Dhorasoo to win his personal battle having been furious that Bergkamp's goal was allowed to stand in the 33rd minute.

The Dutchman clearly pushed Edmilson on the way to scoring the first goal of the game at Highbury but the strike stood only Edmilson to reply with seconds remaining to deny the Gunners back to back victories over his team.

The result means that Arsenal leads Lyon by a point with Spartak Moscow also still in contention a further point behind. Group C leader Bayern Munich is on the brink of a quarterfinal spot after 3-0 win in Moscow.

As the Gunners threatened early, Robert Pires, one of four French players on the Arsenal starting lineup compared with only six on the Lyon team, fired an angled shot too high and Ray Parlour struck the outside of the post from a cushioned header down by Bergkamp.

At the other end, Steve Marlet, earlier shown the yellow card, which means he misses the next game against Bayern Munich, shot over the target from a difficult angle after Gilles Grimandi had lost possession.

Thierry Henry had the ball in the net from a Bergkamp pass but was offside before the Gunners went ahead in the 33rd minute with a goal that should not have stood.

Pires broke from defense and sent Bergkamp on a chase with Edmilson. Clearly unable to beat Edmilson for pace, the Dutchman pushed him in the back but Slovak referee Lubos Michel saw nothing wrong and Bergkamp ran through to power the ball into the roof of the net.

Lyon's Cambodian star, Marc-Vivien Foe, who had a season in English soccer with West Ham, was cautioned early in the second half for hauling down Patrick Vieira and also will miss the Bayern game.

Philippe Violeau went close to equalizing with a long-range shot midway through the second half and Sonny Anderson had a shot blocked by a defender.

The Gunners sent on a fifth Frenchman 20 minutes from the end when Sylvain Wiltord replaced goalscorer Bergkamp and almost went further ahead only for 'keeper Gregory Coupet to scramble the ball away from a header by Lauren.
