Yameogo gets caretaker role in shakeup

OUAGADOUGOU (Reuters) -- Jacques-Michel Yameogo has been thrust into Burkina Faso's coaching hot seat just seven days before the start of the African Nations Cup finals.

He takes over from the Luis-Oscar Fullone, fired last Friday after regularly missing the team's preparation because he had to travel to Paris to attend to his ill wife.

Fullone had only been appointed last September but Yameogo sat in as coach for the recent friendlies against Togo, Senegal and Cameroon because of the Argentine's absences.

Yameogo coached Burkina Faso's under-17 team to a surprise third place finish at last year's world championships in Trinidad and Tobago, where the west Africans finished behind France and Nigeria.

He is also the coach of the famed Burkinabe academy, Plante Champion Internationale, from where the majority of the under-17 players were drawn.

Yameogo will be assisted by Pihouri Weboanga for the tournament but officials said his appointment was only on a caretaker basis.
