LONDON (AP) -- Manchester United twice came from behind to beat a determined West Ham 5-3 on Saturday to increase its slender lead at the top of the Premier League.

Seven different players scored at Upton Park as United moved to 64 points. Liverpool, who beat Middlesbrough 2-1 earlier Saturday, is second with 62 points. Arsenal, on 60 points, travels to Aston Villa on Sunday.

In other games, Alan Shearer missed an injury time penalty as Newcastle drew 2-2 with Ipswich and bottom club Leicester let a 2-0 lead slip to draw 2-2 with Southampton. Chelsea beat Sunderland to notch up its third consecutive 4-0 win to move to within three points of fourth placed Newcastle (56 points).

Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen was sent off for a professional foul, helping Derby to a 3-1 win. Both sides are in the relegation zone, with Bolton one point ahead. David Moyes got off to a good start in charge of Everton with a 2-1 win over Fulham. On Sunday, Leeds hosts Blackburn.

Gascoigne joins Burnley

BURNLEY, England (AP) -- Former England midfield star Paul Gascoigne left Everton for first division club Burnley on Saturday.

Gascoigne, 34, left Goodison Park three days after David Moyes was appointed Everton's new manager. He was out of contract at the end of the season.

Burnley said Gascoigne would make his debut on Wednesday against Bradford City, after failing to meet the deadline to play fellow promotion hopeful Preston on Sunday.

"We've just missed the deadline," Burnley chairman Barry Kilby said. "But he will be at the match -- and he'll be playing for us at Bradford on Wednesday evening."

Kilby said Gascoigne's loyalty to Walter Smith, who was sacked last week, blocked Burnley's initial approach two weeks ago.

"We were making inquiries for him -- but he was very loyal to Walter Smith," Kilby said. "However, when he left Everton there was chink of light for us. The deal is to the end of the season; then we'll sit down and discuss the future."

Gascoigne has also played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers and Middlesbrough. He joined Everton two years ago, but suffered off-field problems that included a stay at a rehabilitation clinic in the United States.

"I just can't wait to score on the pitch and show the fans what I can do," Gascoigne told Burnley's website. "If everyone is as keen as the manager and the chairman is, I don't see why the team can't make the Premiership."

Gascoigne said he was impressed by Burnley manager Stan Ternent.

"I wasn't really happy at being dropped by Everton," he said. "I was a little bit down and thought a change would do me the world of good. There were a number of clubs interested but after talking to the manager and seeing how keen is he is, that was good enough for me.

"I'm going to play at Burnley, give it all I've got, which I always do. My ambition is to try and get this team into the Premiership."

Kilby said he hoped Gascoigne would boost the club like the arrival of former England international Ian Wright two years ago.

"It will be like Ian Wright with extra people coming in to see someone of Paul's quality playing for Burnley," he said.

Burnley is in eighth position, five points out of the playoff places.

David Beckham scored United's first and final goal at West Ham in an inspired performance.

West Ham skipper Steve Lomas, recently back after a knee injury, opened the scoring with a header past Manchester United 'keeper Fabien Barthez after eight minutes.

Beckham equalized in the 17th minute with a brilliant lob, but three minutes later the Hammers were again in front when Frederic Kanoute sidefooted home a low cross.

Two minutes later Nicky Butt leveled, heading in a Beckham free-kick while in the second half, Paul Scholes and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer also scored. Jermaine Defoe pulled one back for the Hammers before United were given a late penalty after Tomas Repka brought down Scholes. Beckham converted.

At the Riverside stadium, Liverpool took the lead through Emile Heskey in the 33rd minute from close range after Boro goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer parried Dietmar Hamann's shot in a half largely dominated by the Teessiders.

Riise doubled the score in the 84th minute after Heskey played him into space and he drove the ball past Schwarzer.

With a minute remaining, Gareth Southgate pulled a goal back for Middlesbrough, leaping to head down past Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

Liverpool was missing England striker Michael Owen, still recovering from a hamstring injury, while Steven Gerrard was on the bench.

"Middlesbrough played well today and we had to show true character and commitment," Liverpool assistant manager Phil Thompson said. "We've played far better than that and got beaten so I've no apologies at all."

Moyes, who succeeded the sacked Walter Smith on Thursday, got off to a mixed start in charge of Everton. After David Unsworth and Duncan Ferguson both scored in the first fifteen minutes, Thomas Graveson was sent off for two yellow cards in the 28th minute. Everton threw their resources into defense, but while Steed Malbranque pulled one back for Fulham, the Toffees took three points.

At Stamford Bridge, William Gallas scored his first Premier League goal and Eidur Gudjohnsen notched up his 22nd of the season. Substitute Mikael Forssell and Sam dalla Bonna also scored against Sunderland.

"This win was important for our confidence," Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri said. "I am Italian and that means I don't like to concede goals, and it is nice that we are performing consistently."

In the first division, the match between Sheffield United and promotion hopeful West Bromwich Albion had to be called off after 82 minutes because of a lack of players on the field. West Brom was leading 3-0.

United had Simon Tracey, Georges Santos and Patrick Suffo sent off after an on-field brawl in the 65th minute. When defender Rob Ullathorne came off injurred with eight minutes left, United only had seven men and referee Eddie Wolstenholme ended the game. The Football League will decide if the result stands.

In other first division results Manchester City increased its lead at the top, with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. City has 83 points, followed by Wolves (78 points), who lost 1-0 to struggling Grimsby.

Stockport became the first team in English soccer to be relegated this season when it lost 3-1 to Wimbledon. In other results, Crewe 1, Portsmouth 1; Gillingham 3, Nottingham Forest 1; Millwall 1, Sheffield Wednesday 2; Rotherham 1, Bradford 1; Walsall 2, Barnsley 1; Watford 3, Coventry 0.
