America tops Tulua 3-2

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico's America beat Colombia's Tulua 3-2 on Thursday to top Group 7 in the first round of the Copa Libertadores.

The game was more for show. America is already assured a second round berth and Tulua had been eliminated.

America has 16 points in its group to lead the tournament's eight groups. Tulua has three points.

Thursday's game was the first time America had allowed another team to score in 469 minutes of tournament play.

America's goals were the work of Venezuelan Ricardo Paez, Uruguayan Marcelo Lipatin and Moctezuma Serrato in the 17th, 47th and 64th minutes, respectively. Oscar Diaz and Frank Torres scored for the Colombians in the 19th and 73rd minutes.

Some 2,500 people attended the game, played mainly in rain at Mexico City's famous Azteca Stadium.

TULUA: Diego Gomez; Robinson Rosas, Carlos Hernandez, Jairo Martinez (Ruben Velazquez 73), Oscar Diaz; Alex Rodriguez, Julian Barahona, Edwin Ortiz (Eliser Diaz 85), Mayer Candelo; Jorge Victoria y Oscar Londono (Frank Torres 65).
