Rivaldo aiming to see out Barca contract Posted: Wednesday May 29, 2002 8:23 AMMADRID (Reuters) Barcelona's Brazilian forward Rivaldo plans to see out his contract at the Catalan club despite the return of Dutch coach Louis van Gaal. "It is almost certain that I will stay as I have another year left on my contract," the 30-year-old player was quoted as saying by Spanish sports daily Marca on Tuesday. The former World Player of the Year had several run-ins with van Gaal during the Dutchman's first spell in charge at the club. But Rivaldo, who was dogged by injury for much of the season, said he was keen to stay on and repay the club's fans after a disappointing campaign. "It was a bad season for me," he said. "I tried to force myself to play as much as possible, but it wasn't to be. I have to ask forgiveness from the fans because it has been my worst season at the club. Asked if he was prepared to switch from his preferred
central position to the left wing if van Gaal repeated the
tactical formation he used last time he was in charge, Rivaldo
replied: "I will even play goalkeeper if I have to."
