The latest rumors from the international transfer market.

Ireland's Gary Breen looks set to head for Merseyside following the breakdown of his proposed move to Inter. The former Coventry player is available on a free transfer and Everton boss David Moyes yesterday confirmed he was in talks with the defender.

Milan have stepped up their chase for Samuele Dalla Bona by making an improved offer for the Chelsea player. The Rossoneri are now offering Romanian full-back Cosmin Contra in a £7m part exchange deal.

The departure of Junichi Inamoto from Highbury looks close to completion. Fulham's new Director of Football Franco Baresi has just completed the transfer of Antonio Bennarivo from Parma and also confirmed that the Arsenal star is close to signing for around £3m.

Baresi has also made an inquiry for Milan's Demetrio Albertini , but the £7m-rated Italian midfielder rejected the move. However, the Azzurri star could still be on the move to Parma or Tottenham.

Brazilian Luizao is close to signing for Espanyol. The striker currently players for Corinthians and the Spanish club want the £7m-rated World Cup star to spearhead their attack next season.

Brescia have now moved to the head of the queue for out-of-contract Paul Ince . The Middlesbrough captain is likely to leave the Riverside in the next few weeks and is believed to favour a move back to Serie A.

Several big European clubs including Newcastle, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are chasing Boavista midfielder Armando Petit . The £10m-rated midfielder impressed during the World Cup despite Portugal's overall bad showing.

Turkish playboy Ilhan Mansiz has caught the attention of several clubs in Serie A following his impressive World Cup performances. Parma want to link the £6m-rated Besiktas striker with his international colleague Hakan Sukur, but Chievo have also indicated their interest in the player.

Midfielder Marcos Assuncao is close to leaving Roma for Spanish club Real Betis. Dutchman Edgar Davids is expected to arrive in Rome from Juventus in the next few days which could pave the way for the £4m transfer of the Brazilian.

Carsten Jancker has been considering offers from Galatasaray, Shakhtar Donetsk and several English clubs. The £5m-rated German international has been told he is surplus to requirements at Bayern Munich following a poor season in the Bundesliga.

The fine World Cup performances of German youngster Christoph Metzelder have led to interest from Real Madrid. The European champions are poised to make a bid of £14m for the Dortmund player.

Chelsea are the latest club to be linked with a swoop for out-of-favour Lazio star Gaizka Mendieta . The Blues have little cash to spend but could land the Spanish midfielder on a year-long loan deal.

Several more clubs have made inquiries for American World Cup defender Tony Sanneh who presently plays for Nurnberg in the Bundesliga. Arsenal and Rangers are interested in the £2m-rated defender.

Barcelona look to have won the race for midfielder Kily Gonzalez . The two clubs are still in negotiations but it is believed the Argentine will complete a £10m move in the next for days.

Lee Bowyer still remains transfer listed at Leeds, despite David O'Leary's departure yesterday. Arsenal and Manchester United are keeping tabs on the £10m-rated midfielder.
