Celtic manager pledges to stay Posted: Friday July 05, 2002 2:43 PMDUBLIN, Ireland (AP) -- Martin O'Neill appeared to deliver a snub to Leeds United on Friday when he said he intended to see out his contract at Glasgow Celtic. Leeds fired David O'Leary last month and O'Neill, who has guided Celtic to back-to-back Scottish league titles, is favorite with the bookmakers to take over at Elland Road. But the 50-year-old former Leicester City manager told a fund-raising lunch for Irish soccer club Shelbourne FC that the only way he would leave Celtic were if the Scottish champion fired him. "If Celtic do not sack me I intend to see out my contract," he said, which means he would stay at Parkhead until at least the end of the coming season. Unless big rival Rangers opens up a big lead in the Scottish title race and his own team is ousted early from the Europe Champions Cup, it's unlikely that Celtic will consider firing the former Northern Ireland international. "It is safe to say if Leeds or any team approached us, the club would do everything in its power to keep Martin at Celtic," a club spokesman said.
