Farina to continue as Socceroo coach

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Frank Farina will keep his job as Australian coach but has been told by Soccer Australia not to speak out against the organization in the future.

Farina's position came under scrutiny at a Soccer Australia board meeting which finished Saturday, a week after Australia lost to New Zealand in the final of the Oceania Nations Cup.

Farina complained that he had just 12 days to prepare a squad and had access to just one overseas-based player.

Soccer Australia chairman Ian Knop said Farina had been "sanctioned by the board about his comments on certain things."

"He's now only allowed to speak about things that relate to the performance of the team," Knop said.

Farina said he was not clear what the sanctions meant.

"Sanctions -- I'm not sure what they are but I've spoken to Ian (Knop) and I'm comfortable where things are at, at the moment. We haven't had time to really sit down so we'll probably do that in the next week."
