BOLTON, England (AP) -- Struggling Bolton Wanderers on Saturday completed the signing of Real Madrid defender Ivan Campo on a one-year loan.

The 28-year-old Madrid player passed a medical and agreed personal terms after meeting Bolton officials on Friday night. Wanderers, next to last in the Premier League with no points, is now waiting for international clearance to arrive but Campo will not figure in Sunday's game against Aston Villa as he is short of match fitness.

Campo has been a long-term target for Wanderers' manager Sam Allardyce.

"It has been a long haul but we have been patient as always and resilient as usual," the Bolton manager said. "We haven't got as much as most in terms of finance but in the end we have managed to strike a deal, which is fantastic.

"We have had many disappointments over the last few weeks and, when you finally clinch one, it doesn't half cheer you up.

"Campo is a good all-round defender. He is very strong, very quick and good in the air."

The Spaniard will team up with experienced overseas stars such as veteran French forward Youri Djorkaeff and Nigerian playmaker Jay-Jay Okocha.
