MILAN, Italy (AP) -- Argentine striker Hernan Crespo was transferred from Lazio to Inter Milan Saturday, the Milan club announced.

Inter officials turned to Crespo to ensure that the squad maintains a potent attack after Brazilian superstriker Ronaldo was dealt to Real Madrid.

The club confirmed the transfer late Saturday on its Web site after the Ronaldo deal was completed.

The 27-year-old Crespo will pair in attack at Inter with Italian national team star Christian Vieri. The Argentine scored 13 goals last season for Lazio, where he has played since being transferred from Parma in 2000.

As a member of Argentina's national team, Crespo fought for playing time with fellow striker Gabriel Batistuta at this summer's World Cup, scoring one goal before Argentina was eliminated after just the first round.

Also Saturday, Lazio defender Alessandro Nesta was transferred to AC Milan, as Italian clubs raced to complete their rosters on the final day of the summer transfer campaign.
