LONDON (AP) -- Record-setting Arsenal racked up a 4-1 victory Saturday over Leeds to stay atop the Premier League, and Michael Owen broke his scoring slump with a hat trick as second-place Liverpool won 3-0 at Manchester City.

Middlesbrough moved into third place with a lopsided 3-0 whitewash at Tottenham. Manchester United won its fourth straight match, taking a 3-1 victory at Charlton to move into fourth place.

In other scores Saturday in the Premier League: Bolton 1, Southampton 1; Chelsea 2, West Ham 3; Everton 2, Fulham 0; Sunderland 1, Aston Villa 0. In a late match, Newcastle played at Birmingham.

On Monday West Brom is home to Blackburn.

Defending champion Arsenal leads with 20 points followed by Liverpool (18), Middlesbrough (14), Manchester United (14), Chelsea (13), Tottenham (13), Leeds (12) and Fulham and Everton with 11 each.

Despite its first victory of the season, West Ham stayed in last place with five points with Charlton and Southampton two points above.

In Arsenal's win, Nigerian Kanu notched two as Arsenal scored in a record-47th consecutive league match. The mark topped the old record of 46 set in 1929-30 by Chesterfield. It was Arsenal's 29th unbeaten game in the Premier League to equal Manchester United's record, and also an English record of 23 straight away games unbeaten.

Kanu scored after just nine minutes and again in the 86th. Ivory Coast international Kolo Toure and Thierry Henry also found the back of the net. Australian Harry Kewell scored for Leeds.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger called the victory "one of the best" in his time at Arsenal.

"We have had outstanding consistency and we are getting better and better," Wenger added. "Consistency is the quality of a champion and that's what we want to be."

"The first 30 minutes we were certainly outstanding," he added.

Owen, who had only one goal going into the match and none from open play, broke lose with goals in the 4th, 64th and 89th for Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier praised his side for winning against an explosive Man City side.

"Beating Manchester City here was to me, well, I really can't find enough words to praise my players," he said.

Middlesbrough now finds itself near the top of the standing thanks to goals from Massimo Maccarone, Njitap Teremi and Joseph-Desire Joe.

Manchester United trailed 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Charlton's Claus Jensen, but roared back in the second with Ryan Giggs, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Paul Scholes getting the others. Scholes returned after knee surgery only three weeks ago.

"The first half was a real ding-dong game, said Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. "I thought the second half, once we equalized, we were the better side. But we had to work hard for it."

Ferguson also praised Giggs.

"The great thing about Ryan now is he's staying clear of injury, that's the key to him. When he misses games he loses his consistency of performance."

In the first division, Portsmouth stayed in the lead (28 points) with a 3-0 home win against Bradford. Leicester stayed in second place (26) with a 1-0 home win over Wolves. Norwich hung on to third (24) with a 2-1 win at Preston.

In other first-division scores: Brighton 1, Grimsby 2; Burnley 1, Wimbledon 0; Coventry 2, Millwall 3; Ipswich 0, Derby 1; Nottingham Forest 3, Rotherham 2; Reading 1, Stoke 1; Sheffield United 1, Watford 2; Walsall 1, Sheffield Wednesday 0.

Match Summaries

Bolton 1, Southampton 1 (0-0)

Wayne Bridge gave Southampton a 1-0 lead in the 82nd, but Youri Djorkaeff scored in injury time to knot things and save a point for Bolton. The former French international was left alone at the back post and made no mistake for the equalizer.

Charlton 1, Manchester United 3 (1-0)

Claus Jensen gave Charlton a 1-0 lead with a goal just before the break, but it did not last. Paul Scholes, back after knee surgery three weeks ago, scored in the 54th with Ryan Giggs scoring in the 83rd and Ruud Van Nistelrooy in injury time. Van Nistelrooy came in as a second-half substitute.

Chelsea 2, West Ham 3 (1-1)

Paolo Di Canio got the winner in the 84th -- his second of the match -- as West Ham got its first win of the season. Chelsea had the early lead on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's 21st-minute penalty. But Jermain Defoe and Di Canio made it 2-1 in the 40th and 48th. Gianfranco Zola equalized in the 74th to set the stage for Di Canio.

Everton 2, Fulham 0 (2-0)

Everton remained unbeaten at home as Kevin Campbell and Thomas Gravesen both scored in second-half injury time. Everton dominated the match and the score could have been worse if Tomasz had scored instead of hitting the woodwork twice.

Leeds 1, Arsenal 4 (0-2)

Arsenal keeps winning and piling up the records. Arsenal's 47th straight league victory topped the old record of 46 set in 1929-30 by Chesterfield. It was Arsenal's 29th unbeaten game in the Premier League to equal Manchester United's record, and also an English record of 23 straight away games unbeaten. In this one-sided match, Kanu (9th, 86th) sored twice with Thierry Henry (47th) and Kolo Toure (20th) getting the others. Harry Kewell scored in the 84th for Leeds.

Manchester City 0, Liverpool 3 (0-1)

Michael Owen is back. Owen, who had scored only one goal --and none from open play -- got three to silence his critics. The victory ended Man City's 24-match unbeaten record at home.

Sunderland 1, Aston Villa 0 (0-0)

Peter Reid can rest for another few days. The Sunderland manager has been reported to be on the verge of losing his job, but the victory should hold off critics. David Bellion got the winner for the Black Cats in the 70th. The loss will surely put Graham Taylor under fire at Villa.

Tottenham 0, Middlesbrough 3 (0-1)

Middlesbrough moved into third place with the victory as the Tottenham defense let down 'keeper Kasey Keller. Massimo Maccarone (33rd), Njitap Geremi (55th) and Joseph-Desire Job (58) scored for 'Boro.
