LA CORUNA, Spain (AP) -- Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Jose Francisco Molina will recommence training in nine days after overcoming a testicular tumor, the soccer club said.

"Following a conversation between (club president) Augusto Cesar Lendoiro, Jose Molina and the medical services, the Deportivo president announces that on Jan. 20 the soccer player will resume his activities in La Coruna," ran the statement on the club's Web site www.canaldeportivo.com said.

The 32-year-old announced his temporary retirement almost three months ago and moved to his home town, the eastern city of Valencia, where he received chemotherapy treatment.

Spanish newspapers Saturday said that Molina's teammates had reacted to the news with delight.

"We're all very happy, it was something we'd been waiting to hear for a long time. It's a great boost for the squad," the club's Argentine midfielder Aldo Duscher was quoted as saying by the leading daily Marca.

Molina, who has played nine times for Spain, joined Deportivo from Atletico de Madrid in 2000. He was a key member of the Atletico team which won the league and Copa del Rey double in 1996.

Ex-Spain keeper Toni on way back to Espanyol

BARCELONA (Reuters) -- Former Spain goalkeeper Toni Jimenez will rejoin his old club Espanyol at the start of next week, the Spanish first division side said Saturday.

The 32-year-old keeper, who played for Espanyol between 1993 and 1999, will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with the first division strugglers.

Espanyol said that Toni would be their only signing before the winter transfer window closes at the end of January.

Toni, who won the last of his three international caps for Spain in October 1999, had an unsuccessful spell at Atletico Madrid between 1999 and 2002 and moved to second division Elche on a free transfer at the beginning of the season.

Espanyol, which recently appointed former Spain boss Javier Clemente to take over as coach, are 19th in the 20-team Spanish first division with 13 points from 16 matches.
