Group Four Roundup Sweden beats Hungary; Poland thrashes San MarinoPosted: Wednesday April 02, 2003 5:00 PMUpdated: Wednesday April 02, 2003 6:02 PM BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) -- Two goals from Marcus Allback helped lift Sweden to a 2-1 victory over Hungary in a Group 4 qualifying match for the 2004 European Championship. Allback, a forward for Aston Villa in the English Premier League, scored a goal in each half. In the 34th minute, Allback opened the scoring with a kick off a deflection after a save by Hungarian goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly. Allback's shot came just a few meters (yards) from the goal, while Kiraly was still on his knees. After a listless start to the second half, Sweden began wasting chance after solid chance, with three shots on goal within four minutes. But in the 65th minute, Hungary managed to even the match with a bull's-eye kick from outside the penalty box by Krisztian Lisztes, who got a low shot by the outstretched arms of Swedish goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson. Barely a minute later, Allback ran behind the Hungarian defense, took a pass from Henrik Larsson and beat Kiraly easily with a shot to the left side of the goal. Sweden racked up five yellow cards during the game -- Johan Mjallby, Anders Svensson, Mikael Svensson, Kim Kallstrom and Fredrik Ljunberg -- while Jozsef Sebok was the only player carded for Hungary. Poland and Latvia top the table although Latvia has a game in hand. Sweden has five points from three matches while Hungary has five from four and San Marino has no points after four matches.
