FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- German referee Markus Merk will be in charge of Wednesday's all-Italian Champions League final between AC Milan and Juventus Turin at Old Trafford, the German soccer federation (DFB) said Monday.

UEFA, Europe's soccer governing body, picked Merk and two German assistant to officiate the match in Manchester, the DFB said.

A dentist by profession, Merk will be in charge of his first Champions League final. The 41-year-old referee officiated at Euro 2000 and at last year's World Cup in Japan and South Korea.
