MADRID, Spain (AP) -- Colombia and Ecuador played to 0-0 draw Sunday in a friendly marked by few shots on goal and crushing heat that slowed the pace of the game.

Colombia played conservatively while Ecuador was a bit sloppy before an estimated 13,000 people at Vicente Calderon Stadium, home of Atletico Madrid.

For Colombia, the game was a warmup for the Confederation Cup later this month in France. The South American champions open against the hosts on June 18 in Lyon.

On Sunday, Colombia coach Francisco Maturana decided to rely heavily on strikers Elkin Murillo and Elson Becerra, and it nearly worked.

The Colombians' best chance for a goal came in the 27th minute when Becerra outran several defenders and sent off a shot that hit the right upright.

Ecuador had its best chance in the 76th minute as Ulises de la Cruz also outfoxed defenders, only to see his shot hit the goalpost.

The two countries are traditional soccer rivals, and this was seen in a series of hard tackles.

Lineups:

Colombia: Luis Enrique Martinez, Ivan Romero Cordoba, Mario Alberto Yepes, Gerardo Vallejo, Giovanny Hernandez, Oscar Diaz (Johnny Acosta, 89), Jorge Lopez Caballero (Avimiled Rivas, 45), Jairo Patino, Elkin Murillo (Herly Alcazar, 57), Elson Becerra, Javier Arizala (Edgar Ramos, 75).

Ecuador: Jacinto Espinosa, Ivan Hurtado, Ulises de la Cruz, Alfonso Obregon, Fricson George, Geovanny Espinoza, Edison Mendez, Clever Chala, Marlon Ayovi, Johnny Baldeon (Carlos Tenorio, 45), Otilino Tenorio (Augusto Poroso, 71).
